16 Ways to Declutter Your Craft Space - Part 2
In Part Two of this series (view part 1), we dive into five more ways to declutter your craft space in the New Year! This edition focuses on ways to stay organized after you do a big sort. Our goal is to help you organize your craft, and unleash your creativity!
6. Designate a Scrap Zone
Set up a small container for paper scraps—if it overflows, sort and decide what to keep. Keep your scraps container near your primary workstation or wherever you typically cut your paper. A great way to store your scraps and keep them visible is in Paper Pockets and Paper Sleeves! Store your pockets and sleeves in a Paper Holder, and categorize by color, season, brand, material, or however works best for you!
Another way to store paper scraps is with the full sheets they match. This method helps you to use up your scraps before you cut into a fresh sheet of cardstock. For more scrap storage tips and tricks, check out our blog on Solving Paper Problems!
7. Create a “Work in Progress” area
Dedicate a space for projects in progress to prevent clutter from spreading across your workspace. Drawers are a great solution for keeping project pieces together and off of your desk. Be sure to label your project-in-progress drawers and include a note with details like where you left off and how you plan to finish it. You can also organize projects by the date you plan to finish them.
Another great way to store your unfinished projects is in storage pockets. Storage Pockets are clear and come with ready-to-label tabs, so finding what you need isn’t a hassle! Once you fill your Storage Pockets, organize them in Acrylic Crates or Creative Crates. When you are ready to pick up where you left off, take out a pocket and start crafting!
8. Adopt a One-In-One-Out Rule
The One-In-One-Out Rule is simple: For every new supply you buy, commit to letting go of an old or unused one. This rule is easier to follow when your supplies are organized by purchase date or frequency of use. If you find it hard to say goodbye to your old supplies, consider making a plan to use them before a specific date and then commit to letting them go after that date has passed.
9. Store Items by Frequency of Use
Organize your essential tools in the Tool Tray, and keep your other tools and small supplies in a larger Desk Caddy. Keep frequently used supplies within easy reach and store occasional-use items in less accessible areas. The tools you use for every project should be stored on your main work surface or kept within reach.
10. Utilize Clear Containers and Jars
Store smaller embellishments like buttons, brads, beads, or gems in clear containers for quick visibility and access. Crafty Storage Jars are the perfect option for keeping your embellishments accessible and ready to take anywhere! Use them to bring your embellishments to card-making events, scrapbooking retreats, crafting classes, and more! When you aren’t traveling, organize them in the Chalk Paste and Glitter Holder, the large Jar Carousel, or in a Drawer Cabinet single drawer with an optional Storage Jar Grid.
We hope these five tips will continue to help you organize your craft space. Stay tuned for the last six ways to declutter your craft space, and check out these Craft Rooms to get inspired!
