Your Craft Room Questions Answered: Issue 3: Paper

Paper Problems

From cardmaking to scrapbooking, or even origami, so many crafts rely on quality paper. Because paper has such a vital role in craft projects, it needs to be well organized and protected. Let’s take a look at a few ways to keep your paper easy to access and in prime condition.

Aw, scraps!

The number one concern among paper crafters is the difficulty of organizing scraps. How do you store those small, uneven pieces? Which scraps are good, and which do you throw away? Should you organize them by color, size, or shape? One great solution to these problems is storing your paper scraps with your full sheets. This makes your scraps more accessible, and it reminds you which scraps you have available. Using labeled Paper Sleeves in Paper Holders for your scraps is also a great option. The sleeve tabs allow you to write the color name for each paper slot, or you can sort them by project, brand, or season!

In the Shade

When organizing your craft space, it’s common to want as much natural light as possible. Natural light is great for your craft space to give it a relaxing and grounding feel. However, direct sunlight can cause more harm than good when it comes to displaying and storing cardstock and papercrafts. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause colored paper to fade. To prevent this fading, there are a few good options. One, you can store the paper away from any windows or direct light. A second option is to store your paper in a Drawer Cabinet with Ten Single Drawers. This still allows for easy access to your paper but protects it from any light source.

Bye Bins!

When crafters first start growing their collection of supplies, it’s hard to keep up with storing and organizing them. When you don’t know where to start, it’s easy to just throw your supplies into nondescript bins that you probably already have lying around. Unfortunately, bins are not a practical long-term storage and organization solution, especially for paper. Digging through bins takes unnecessary time and effort, and it can end up damaging your paper and cardstock in the process. To combat the problems you encounter with bin storage, look into craft storage solutions that are specifically designed for your tools, supplies, and space. Stamp-n-Storage offers a wide variety of products that will fit your paper perfectly without wasting your precious crafting time and space.

Horizontal vs. Vertical

The great debate between paper crafters is whether or not you should store your paper vertically or horizontally. The good news is that both options work, it just depends on a few factors. Here are some advantages and disadvantages of both styles of paper storage:
